Managing Summer Allergies

Posted on: June 15th, 2017 by Our Team

There’s nothing worse than having your fun in the sun interrupted by summer allergies. Whether it’s sneezing, coughing, or watery eyes, allergies make everyday tasks uncomfortable. Luckily, there are ways to manage this issue, so your summer festivities won’t be compromised.

Know the causes

Allergies can be set off by different things depending on which season you are in. Summer is the perfect time for outdoor activities, but the worse time for those allergic to pollen. Grass pollen and weed pollen are at their highest counts during the summer months. Pollen has the greatest effect on those with hay fever. This disorder, also known as rhinitis, can have symptoms that resemble a common cold.

Humidity is a common factor that prompts summer allergies as well. House bugs and critters are attracted to spaces with warmth and moisture. Dust mites are prevalent during the summer months because of this. Mold is also an allergy trigger that survives best in the heat.  Keep a watch out for both during the sunny season.

Check your symptoms

Many people mistake allergy symptoms for a mild cold. While the two are similar, there are some distinct signs that make each different. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may have allergies:

  • Stuffy nose
  • Watery eyes
  • Runny nose
  • Itchy eyes and nose
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Fatigue and dizziness

Avoid the outdoors

The most effective way to manage your summer allergies is to keep nature outside.

This can be done by simply keeping your windows shut as much as possible. Pollen survives the best in humid climates, so be sure to keep the warmth out. When you spend time outside try to keep from tracking inside. Make certain to vacuum your living space, change out air filters, and wash all bedding and rugs often. If you are forced to go outside for a while, cover your face with a dust mask.

Although allergies can not be eliminated, they can be regulated with the correct medicine and precautionary steps. Enjoy the rest of the sunny season participating in all of activities that you love.
